Putting in the vision, taking out the fear
The Sperling Medical Group in Florida is a patient-oriented practice dedicated to providing the most precise minimally invasive treatment interventions guided and monitored by advanced multiparametric MRI.
“Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others.”
-J. Swift
Dr. Dan Sperling has built his professional life around Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) because he saw its potential to identify and even help cure disease. Since MRI was first used clinically in 1980, it has evolved into the preferred medical imaging technology without exposure to ionizing radiation. Because it allows a doctor to see what is invisible, today’s MRI now takes treatment to a new level – it is used to plan, guide, monitor and confirm interventions in real time, without surgery or radiation. Most of these MRI-guided interventions are minimally invasive, and MRI-guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS) is totally noninvasive. Dr. Sperling’s vision brings art to the science of medicine.
“Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality.”
-W. Bennis
Dr. Dan Sperling is an internationally recognized leader in the use of 3T multiparametric MRI (mpMRI). This rapidly growing technology uses multiple scanning sequences on a powerful 3 Tesla (3T) magnet in order to gain an integrated portrait of a suspicious area. Even conditions such as very small early tumors can be seen on 3T mpMRI. Starting with Focal Laser Ablation of prostate cancer, Dr. Sperling began translating the art of imaging into the reality of harnessing MRI to guide potentially curative procedures.
In building the Sperling Medical Group, Dr. Sperling has further translated his vision into a collaborative team of interventional radiologists who are experts in their specialized areas. Thus, The Sperling Medical Group is able to offer a range of MRI-guided treatments for both common and rare conditions such as
- Back/facet pain
- Bone metastasis
- Desmoid tumors
- Essential tremor
- Prostate cancer (clinical trial of focal MRgFUS)
“Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood.”
-M. Curie
Fear of the unknown is perhaps the most basic human emotion, and being a patient brings many unknowns with it. It is natural to be scared at the thought that something in our body is wrong, and the prospect of being told what it is raises anxiety. Even when assured that there is a minimally invasive treatment brings worries about the unknown: What will it feel like? How do I know it will work? What happens during recovery?
Everyone at the Sperling Medical Group knows that each patient may experience fear differently. We want to take the “fear factor” out of the patient experience as much as possible. For example, our 3T magnet is specially designed with a more spacious and bright interior. Its powerful magnetic field is harmless, and allows for shorter scan times. It has features to help reduce the noise level that can occur during scanning.
Just as important, we are here to answer your questions so you understand all scanning processes and any procedures you may need. Just as an aspirin reduces pain, knowledge reduces fear.
The fact that Dr. Sperling, associate doctors, nurses and technicians are expert leaders in their areas helps patients replace fear with confidence. Our team will welcome and support you throughout preparation and treatment. They will explain your treatment and imaging results in a way you can fully understand.
Rest assured. The Sperling Medical Group is here to put your mind at ease.
